Laura Anne Jones is the Conservative regional Member of the Senedd for South Wales East and Shadow Cabinet Minister for Education. In the Senedd, Laura sits on the Children, Young People and Education Committee and the European Committee of Regions, alongside chairing the Cross Party Group on Sport.
A farmer’s daughter, Laura was born in Usk and educated at Caerleon Comprehensive and, later, at Plymouth University where she studied Politics.
Following this, in 2017, Laura was elected as a County Councillor for Wyesham in Monmouth whereby she proudly accepted the appointment of the County's Armed Forces Champion and Vice Chairman of the Children and Young People's Select Committee. In these roles, she took a keen interest in raising attainment and increasing opportunities for vulnerable children in the region, alongside increasing support for Armed Forces Veterans
In 2003, at just 21 years old, Laura was elected to represent the people of South Wales East in the Assembly, during which time, she was the Shadow Minister for Sport.
Upon her return in July 2020, as MS for South Wales East, she was appointed to the Senedd's Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Minister for Equalities, Children and Young People.
In 2021, Laura was re-elected back into the Senedd, continuing her role as the Conservative Member of the Senedd for South Wales East. However, in this sixth Senedd, Laura was given the role of Shadow Education Minister.
Laura supports a wide range of local community activities in South Wales East. During the Coronavirus Pandemic, Laura ran a number of support groups to assist with vulnerable and shielding families. An avid sports fan, Laura supports a wide-range of local sporting clubs, including junior football.
